In Preparation for Lent

"This year Lent will be for me a spiritual practice of generosity – in giving, praying and fasting. And that won’t feel like giving something up but giving back."

St. David's:  the new "Cafe on-the-Hill"?

Some culinary adventures await culinary adventurers at St. David's in the coming months. Check out the events and schedules, then check them off on your calendar. For starters, how about "Four Lenten Evenings in March"? As Rev. Andrea describes it:

Join us on Tuesday evenings in Lent for prayer, a light supper, and learning about amazing saints of Christian history – ancient and modern saints!  We will explore the wildly popular 'Lent Madness' program – based on ‘March Madness’ basketball brackets! – to become acquainted with this year’s selections for the coveted ‘Golden Halo’ award!

Read more about Lent Madness – a fun and engaging way to learn about the Calendar of Saints – here:

https://www.lentmadness.org/   There will be blogging, videos, and biographies of the Saints!  Which Saint will you pick??  Sign up at the Church Office for your booklet.

Join us at 6:30 in the Side Chapel of the Sanctuary for a brief reflective prayer, then in the Lower Hall for soup and salad and exploration of Saints and Lent Madness!  March 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st.

Upcoming:

Sunday, May 3:  May Day Breakfast

Sunday, Sept. 20, 1 p.m. "Game" Dinner:  "Venison never tasted this good."

Friday, Oct. 23, 6:30 p.m. Bingo Night:  You can call it "Bingo and Bagels" because the St. D's Bakery will be open!

SHROVE TUESDAY PANCAKE SUPPER

February 25th, 6 pm

Let's revive the ancient (and yummy!) tradition of gathering for a family Pancake Supper on Tuesday evening, February 25th at 6:00 PM in the Lower Hall.

For centuries, Christians have called the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday 'Shrove Tuesday' or 'Fat Tuesday' or 'Mardi Gras.'  As this tradition evolved, eating (carb-filled!) pancakes is a final occasion to indulge before a time of fasting in the more somber period of Lent.

If you would like to donate food for this feast, here are some suggestions.  Please bring them (with a note or label) to the Lower Hall kitchen or refrigerator.

Pancake Mix

Milk

Eggs

Oil

Syrup

Butter

Sausage

Drinks - juices, etc.

Paper products

Fruit

Please let Rev. Andrea know if you'd like to help flip pancakes!

Closet on-the-Hill is open for cash sales every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the second and fourth Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon. Merchandise donations are welcome by appointment, by calling Kathy at the church office at 942-4368.

Grannies Attic Indoor Yard Sale is scheduled for late in May.  We are ready to accept your donations.  Please remember, no items for infants will be accepted and no chemicals or Christmas trees.  Please leave items on the stage whenever the office  is open (M -F 10 - 2) or on Sunday mornings.

Opening Screen Above:  St. David's 2020 Annual Meeting took place on Sunday, Jan. 26:  It's the church's Town Hall. It's democracy in action, where everyone's voice is heard and contributions valued. It's where every program's leader submits a report of  2019's challenges and achievements. It's an open book, a record of what St. David's means for its parishioners, its place in the Cranston community, and its role as major outreach for the state, providing support and sustenance to those citizens in most critical need. Congratulations to all those voted onto our Vestry: Junior Wardens, Evie Bain and  Betsy Barber, who are sharing this role, and Vestry members Lois Bogda, Jen Cowart, Sharon Ciummo and Bob Souza. Also, elected as Convention Delegates were Andrea Hutnak and Linda Guest and as Alternate Delegate, Marjorie Reeves-Briden and Fred Malaby. We thank them all for volunteering their time, talent and energy to St. David's.
