Dear Saints of S. David's,

May the peace of Christ be with you. I send you prayers for peace. The news can be frightening, the stock market can be scary, the future is uncertain ... but we are held in God's hands, come what may, and we can be at peace no matter what.

St. Teresa of Avila has a lovely prayer called, in Spanish, 'Nada te turbe' - which means 'Let nothing disturb you.' Here's a translation:

May nothing disturb you.
May nothing astonish you.
Everything passes.
God does not go away.
Patience
can attain anything.
S/he who has God within,
does not lack anything.
God is enough!

Our resident librarian, Andrea Hutnak has graciously put together a few more resources for our time apart-but-still-together. I offer her message here:

"While we're apart as a church family we can still pray together and also take the opportunity to become more familiar with praying the Daily Office which includes Morning Prayer, Noonday prayer, Evening Prayer, and Compline. Each short service can be found in the Online Book of Common Prayer. Click on Daily Office Lectionary to find the collect and readings for the day OR go to The Lectionary Page and click on the month and calendar day to find the day's readings. https://www.lectionarypage.net/

Or you could listen (including music!) at https://www.missionstclare.com/english/.    One click gets you started, then click on the arrows to play the audio.

Not sure how to begin? The Daily Office Tutorial is a great resource to learn more about the Daily Office:

https://stgeorgesardmore.wordpress.com/the-daily-office-tutorial/  "We will take you through every Daily Office service in the Book of Common Prayer step by step, page number by page number, so that you can learn this beautiful, ancient, scriptural, and rhythmic pattern of prayer, and in so doing, join the countless throngs of ages past and present day who around the world and across the centuries offer up their prayer to God using these same words."

Thank you, Andrea! And thank you to our Choir, who rehearsed before we made the decision to close.

Peace be with you, and let us know how we can help,

Rev. Andrea

(Tentative) Book Club – April 2020

The St. David’s Book Club plan to meet next on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 in the Lower Hall at 7:00 PM – We will be reading Searching for Stars on and Island in Maine by Alan Lightman.

From Amazon Books: As a physicist, Alan Lightman has always held a scientific view of the world. But one summer evening, while looking at the stars from a small boat at sea, Lightman was overcome by the overwhelming sensation that he was merging with something larger than himself—an eternal unity, something absolute and immaterial.

Our Holidays on-the-Hill Bazaar (See story here.) is but one example of the many ways the upper hall can be adopted for almost any purpose. We welcome interested parties to visit us and see what we can offer.
